Puglia is the Amalfi Coast at half the price

Trulli stays, burrata for breakfast, and turquoise coves without the cliffside crowds.

Puglia, Italy

The appeal

Puglia is Italy's heel: whitewashed towns, olive groves, and sea caves you can swim into. Masserie (restored farm estates) give you a luxury stay for what a basic Positano room costs.

A 7-day route

Bari (1 night) → Polignano a Mare (2) → Alberobello trulli (1) → Ostuni (2) → Lecce (1). Rent a small car; trains work but are slow between towns.

What it costs

Masseria with pool: $150–$250. Trullo Airbnb: $110. Dinner with wine: $35. Beach lido loungers: €25.

Jamie's quick tips

  • Fly into Bari, out of Brindisi to avoid backtracking.
  • June and September are the sweet spots.
  • Book a cooking class at a masseria — it's the highlight.
